NGVIDD History

On September 24, 1918, the Reclamation Service turned over to the North Gila Valley Irrigation & Drainage District the operation and maintenance of the irrigation system serving the lands in the North Gila Valley. The area became part of the Gila Project. This District took over operation and maintenance activities in 1953. The District is north of the Gila River to the Colorado River.

There are approximately 6,320 acres in the valley contracted for water delivery which includes an estimated 5,000 acres of produce.

The Gila Gravity Main Canal supplies water to the valley. Crops grown include alfalfa, cotton, melons, citrus, winter vegetables and Bermuda grass seed.
